People think that Beard Mountain runs on killer products. Or cool content. Or even a good website.
I'll tell you the only thing that matters in business, and to Beard Mountain: YOU, OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS
You guys are the reason that Beard Mountain is anything. Without the awesome people that come to this little corner of the internet, Beard Mountain would seriously be nothing. I don't just mean that in terms of "customers". You guys (and gals) do way more than buy my products.
You give us ideas
You tell us how to better a better business
You make this all worth doing, and you keep us always moving forward.
And for that, I am eternally grateful. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the opportunity to be the guy that builds this into what YOU want it to be. That being said, since I started Beard Mountain there have always been a few people out there that have connected with me directly (which isn't hard to do!). These folks are a huge driver behind Beard Mountain. Today, I want to start a new feature on Beard Mountain: Living the Beard. Living the Beard will feature guys describing what living the beard is to them - in there own words. So, for our first Living the Beard feature, I give you Kenny Peterson!
Hi, my name is Kenny Peterson. I grew up in a small suburb; about a 20-minute drive North of Boston, named Burlington, MA. Ever since I could, I have had some form of hair on my face. I went to college for video production, realized I didn’t want to start that life yet, and moved to Park City, UT, with my lovely girlfriend to snowboard. Nowadays, I find myself tending bar full time, snowboarding, hiking, playing with my two kittens, cooking, baking, and ya know, other really manly things…
Like I said before, I started growing a beard ever since I could, which started in high school at some point. I didn’t really fall in love with all my hairiness until about college though, when I decided it was manly to not shave my face, chest, and all that. Men are hairy. Hair is manly. Or at least I’ve convinced myself of that. This beard I currently have on my face started on August 25th, 2014 when I went down to Salt Lake City and got a real nice straight razor from my barber Logan. As I write this, my beard is about 8 months old and I have not trimmed or shaved once.
Since that day I have been applying the Beard Mountain Beard Oil at least 1-2 times a day. It was awesome in the early, itchy stages because it helped relieve some of the dry skin that naturally occurs during that terrible 3-week period. Now that my hair has grown longer, the beard oil keeps my skin hydrated and my hair soft, manageable and smelling nice (optimal growing conditions). My routine is normally something like this: shower, towel dry, apply beard oil, comb with a saw cut comb, apply mustache wax, maybe some beard balm, and I’m good to go. Sometimes I’ll reapply the oil before a work shift to keep it looking good.
Conversations about my beard seem to be the most common with my guests at the bar. It’s surprising how many people are into it. Every once in a while someone will ask to touch it, which doesn’t bother me as long as they don’t tug it. My goal is to try and bring as many people into the beard gang as I can, male or female.
One of the coolest things about having a beard is the unspoken and understood brotherhood between us bearded guys. There are a lot of head nods of respect to one other, which my girlfriend gets a huge kick out of. Basically what I am trying to get at is that you should grow a beard. It protects you from enemies that are trying to punch your jaw, because they can’t find it. It protects your skin from ultraviolet rays. It makes you look older, and smarter than you actually are. It makes your cats think that you are also a cat. So grow a beard. And adopt a cat. No… two cats.
